Should I go to PA school? .... Inception to Realization

In two short months I will graduate and be on my way as a physician assistant. I can tell you that it is possbile. I went from a finance business managment degree, working as a loan analyst to now a PA-C.
The job offers have been numerous and I haven't even graduated yet. Excellent locations and envirnonements that pay a new PA over $100k a year. A career that allows you to be actively helping people and taking care of others that are desperate for good advice, communication, and health care management. In clnic I am often humbled and so thankful when patients express their true concerns and longings to be whole. The trust they place in me and the thanks they give me is very very rewarding. My point of this is that the work it takes to achieve the degree of Physician Assistant is worth it!! You can do it if you feel it is the right choice for you. It takes time and a solid and sound approach. On the website smashwords I put a 6 page instruction manual on how to get into PA school. I was constantly asked how the transition to this career was established. Please go to the site and find the document.

The document is $3. Well worth the money. I can then help answer individual questions that you may have. I was accepted to my top PA school choice after being accepted to a handful. I was awarded a scholarship that paid full tuition and gave me monthly money for living expenses. I resourced and met great providers that took me under their wings to act as mentors and teach me many things. I accepted a wonderful job, with great providers surrounding, much autonomy, high salary, and very nice benefits. Anyway get started today

  1. Hi Ben,

Did you ever consider medical school? And what specialty are you looking to practice in?

I am a 24 year old student who was just accepted to PA school, but I have been wavering back and forth between medical school and PA school. I would love to hear how you decided upon PA school!

    Thanks,
    Jon

  2. Yes I did consider medical school... however with my age 33, having 3 kids and wife... I wanted to exit school still maried and not a stranger to my children. I think if you can handle the extra debt, time away from family, and extended torture of stress, go for it. I have talked to several MD's who are making a lot of money but also still paying off huge student debts that they would prefer the PA route.... and also many that I could never see not being a MD. Don't let pride make you become a MD but find out what is the best choice for your situation.

  3. Hi Ben

I am currently 23 and I graduated with a BA in Economics. I recently started taking going back to school to take my prereqs for a career change into a PA. I bought you ebook and it really helped. However I wanted to ask you more on other ways to get clinical/direct patient care experience without getting any certifications. How did you get your clinical experience? I am trying to look for the fastest way to achieve hours without any certifications because those May be costly. Do you have any suggestions?

  5. Hello Kimberly.. I'm not sure if you received the email I sent to you or not. Thanks for buying the ebook and please email me with direct questions and I will help you out as much as possible. When I decided to go this route I took an EMT-B course at the local junior college. After 1 semester I was licensed and ready to get clinical experience. I was able to find a position at a hospital working in the ED; others I know worked for an ambulance company. It is very important that you go about it the right way. Find out what the schools are expecting and do it. Don't waste any time preparing to get accepted. I have a lot of suggestions. Send me an email. Thanks

  6. If I hate working 12 hour shifts, nights, weekends, and holidays, should I bother going to PA school. Were there many family clinics looking for PAs when your graduated. I've been working at a hospital and it's not for me?

    1. One nice thing about being a PA is that there are very many avenues and opportunities. There are many family clinics that are looking for PAs that have regular job hours. You can work with specialists of any type that typically have regular job hours.

  7. Hi Ben,

I first want to thank you for writing this incredible, very honest blog. After reading your posts, I have started seriously considering changing career paths. I was not able to purchase your ebook because it said the full version was not available. Do you know why it is showing this? I currently am in Seattle working in a business rotational program but would love to hear more about how you finally decided that the switch was actually going to happen. My email is tracy.Striebich@gmail.com. I would love to hear more about this! Thanks so much.

    Best,
    Tracy Striebich
